Pinewood Derby 2008
Today, the cub scouts had their Pinewood Derby. Joshua made most of his car by himself and was excited to race it. Last year he came in last in all the races, except one, where he was third, so he was hoping to do better this time. We got there in time for them to get his car weighed (it has to be a certain weight) and registered and then to get some of the pizza that they had out for everyone. While Joshua was getting himself some pizza, Josh registered the car for him. They asked him what the car's name was. Joshua is a VERY literal guy, so since Josh had forgotten to ask him, Josh saw the car was a blue wedge and said, " How about the blue wedge." He then finished registering the car and went to find Joshua and ask him if that name was ok. Joshua said, "Well, can't we just name it The Blue Car?"Sarah and I waiting.... and waiting..... for Joshua's turn to race his car. We know a good many of the Tiger cubs since Abby was in kindergarten with several of them, so we did have fun watching them race before Joshua's group. Abby is always making friends and here she is with one of her kindergarten friend's mom.
Finally it was Joshua's turn. His car came in second the first race and he was so excited. Then the next race it came in first, so he was able to make it to the semi- finals.
Joshua was nervously watching..... When we were getting in the car on the way home, he said he was still out of breath because he had been so nervous.
Here he is when he found out he won the semi-finals round and was going to the final round.
Then time for the finals- the race for 3rd place- whoever lost this race would be in third...
Joshua came in second, so he was going to the last race to see who would get first.
Here they are ready to go....... Joshua came in second for the Wolf cubs! He was so excited!!
Here he is getting his trophy with his friends who came in first and third. Jackson, the young man who came in third is in his class at school.
We had a lot of fun watching it and was very proud of Joshua for his perseverance and hard work at trying again- even after coming in last, last year.
